Real people and real situations

Films conventionally are often asked to be about something. Performance in Passing is a film about real people and real situations. This film was started with an observation not really knowing how it will end. We took the risk of not knowing and did not have a pre-ordained plan.

The Method of this film was to avoid pre-conceived, pre-packaged representation of reality. Rather then providing answers, we asked questions and tried to see what given answers communicated. Rather than dictating the rules we wanted our subjects to reveal things that they wanted to say, sing or show.

Unpredictable nature of our film not knowing who we will get to film or talk to every time going to the Bart station posed some difficulties in terms of envisioning the direction in which film is going. With gathered footage we uncovered something very interesting: a diverse mosaic of human performance and experience.
